I purchased a Lenovo Legion Tab Y700 2023.
High-performance 8.8-inch tablet
The Lenovo Legion Tab Y700 2023 is powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, the highest performing of the now endangered 8-inch tablets.
Unlike the Samsung-made 8 Gen 1, which was a failure, the TSMC-made 8+ Gen 1 has improved performance and power efficiency, averaging a smooth 58.7 FPS even when playing Genshin in the highest quality and latest area Fontaine.
While the overall specs have improved from the very popular 2022 model, the weight has been reduced by 16 grams.
This review is done with the ZUI_15.0.549 version, 12GB+256GB version.

The charger is a weird type that supports 11V / 6.2A = 68.2W.
Display: Combines a large screen with ease of operation
The Lenovo Legion Tab Y700 2023 has an 8.8″ 2560 x 1600 resolution display.
The aspect ratio is 16:10, which is large enough to be comfortable for gaming and other operations while still being large enough to be easily accessible.
Manga apps such as Shonen Jump+ can also display spreads.
The left and right margins are displayed.
It is more than one size smaller than a 10-inch tablet.
Brightness reached a maximum of 421 nits when measured with the LX-1336B during all-white HDR video playback with automatic brightness adjustment on.
It is suitable for indoor use.
The refresh rate is 144Hz compatible and can be set to 120Hz.
It can be fixed by changing the setting to 144Hz or 120Hz… but it will remain fixed even for non-supported games, so it is basically better to leave it on automatic.
When the touch sampling rate was measured with the Touch Sample Rate Tester, it averaged about 240 Hz for both single and multi-touch.
For some reason, when game mode is enabled, the input event invoke rate increases from 60 to 140 Hz.
The touch latency measured by the WALT Latency Timer was 14.1 ms, and the screen rendering latency was 28.4 ms, for a total of 42.5 ms.
Widevine L1 allows streaming in HD quality on Amazon Prime Video (beta) and others.
It was still L1 after Bootloader Unlocking and rooting.
It does not have a fingerprint sensor and only supports face recognition.
If you want to have no lock, you can enable it in the developer options.
Back: Fingerprint resistant
The back is metallic and resistant to fingerprint smudges.
The camera protrudes slightly and rattles a bit when placed on a desk.
This is a gaming tablet and I think a thinner extra camera would be fine, but if it is not attached, people who want to use it for general purposes will probably complain….
It weighs 350.8g.
Speaker: loud and difficult to be blocked by hand
The Lenovo Legion Tab Y700 2023 has stereo speakers.
The speakers are symmetrical and are located in a place that is difficult to be covered by the hand when held horizontally, so the sound is not reduced.
The volume is loud enough at one level to be heard easily, especially vocals.
Bass can sound a bit muffled, but overall it is clear and exceptional for an 8-inch tablet.
It is equipped with a Cirrus Logic CS35L45 amplifier.
Dolby Atmos compatible and cannot be turned off when using the speakers.
The audio output delay was 36 ms when measured with the WALT Latency Timer.
Measurements with the earlier firmware of the 2022 model were 77.9 ms, so this is a significant improvement.
Bluetooth supports AAC / aptX / aptX HD / aptX Adaptive / aptX TWS+ as well as LDAC.
Ports: Dual port and bypass charging support
The Lenovo Legion Tab Y700 2023 supports 45W fast charging.
Two USB Type-C ports allow you to use USB Type-C earphones or USB DAC while charging.
Unfortunately, the earphone jack that was present in the 2022 model has been eliminated, but it is still better than on a device with only one port, since it basically allows for higher sound quality with a DAC and does not interfere with charging.
The USB Type-C port on the longer side is USB 3.2 Gen 1 and supports video and audio output in DisplayPort Alt Mode.
There is also a microSD card slot for additional storage.
Bypass charging can be activated from game mode.
Since power can be supplied directly without recharging the battery, the load and heat generated by the battery can be reduced while eliminating the worry of running out of power.
A function to prevent overcharging and a function to maintain the remaining battery level at around 50% to extend the life of the battery are available.
The switch that was present on the 2022 model has been eliminated, and the power button is jagged.
The switch was a useless function used only to turn on/off overlay displays such as FPS, so its elimination would be appropriate.
GPS is mentioned as a source example in the description of the settings, but unfortunately GPS is not supported.
Only Wi-Fi and Bluetooth location scanning can be used.
Performance: Long-lasting performance at low temperatures
The Lenovo Legion Tab Y700 2023 is powered by the regular version Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and thanks to its good heat dissipation design, high performance lasts longer.
In Geekbench 6, the package name disguised version (i.e., not affected by the manufacturer’s illegal boost) had a single-core of 1859 and a multi-core of 4796, while the normal version had a single-core of 1871 and a multi-core of 4800.
Since there is no significant difference, it appears that performance is not controlled by package name determination.
The score is as high as any Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 smartphone.
The Wild Life Extreme Stress Test in 3DMark with disguised package name showed a score of 2762 to 2439, with a temperature increase from 29°C to 48°C (19°C increase) and battery consumption of 11%.
The stability is high.
The heat generated by the GPU seems to be significant, and the battery temperature is higher than the results of Harakami’s play, which rather often uses the CPU.
PCMark Work 3.0 (package name disguised), which measures performance in everyday use such as document manipulation, scored 12479.
It uses UFS 3.1 storage and LPDDR5X memory.
It is quite fast for a model with UFS 3.1 storage.
Playing Genshin in the newest area, Fontaine (underwater to land), in Performance Mode, highest quality, 60FPS setting, WeTest PerfDog measured an average of 58.7 FPS with a power consumption of 127.89 mW per FPS.
Battery temperatures rose to a maximum of about 39°C.
Although power consumption is a bit large for 8+ Gen 1, heat generation is not so big.
I think the performance mode is over-performing, so it would be easier to leave it in the balanced mode for everyday use.
The 8 Gen 1 models from other companies were only able to produce 50 FPS at most with the same power consumption even in lower load areas, so the balance between performance and power has been greatly improved thanks to TSMC-made 8+ Gen 1.
Collapse: 15 minutes of play with Honkai: Star Rail in the highest quality averaged 53.7 FPS.
Throttling began when the battery temperature exceeded 50°C, and the GPU temperature dropped from 90°C to 70°C at once.
As the trend was found in 3DMark, power consumption and heat generation are larger when using the GPU, and unlike Genshin, the battery temperature rises faster.
In restricted conditions, the battery temperature hovers around 42°C.
Bootloader Unlockable
Lenovo Legion Tab Y700 2023 can be bootloader unlocked by fastboot flashing unlock and fastboot flashing unlock_critical without special application or sn.img preparation.

On GSI, screen on with double-tap can be enabled by running echo "1" > /proc/gesture_control while the screen is on.

The Lenovo Legion Tab Y700 2023 is one of the world’s best performing tablets in the 8-inch class and has several useful gaming features, including bypass charging, dual USB-C ports, and loud speakers that are hard to cover with your hands.
With a 10-inch tablet, it is difficult to reach with fingers and easy to mishandle, but the Legion Tab Y700 2023 is exquisitely sized, and when held horizontally, the feel of operation is not so different from that of a smartphone.
There are also features that allow the controller and keyboard/mouse to be used in various games, and it is a very complete system.
Unfortunately, the Lenovo Legion Tab Y700 2023 is not being introduced globally and seems to be limited to China.
