I purchased REDMAGIC 7S.
Gaming smartphone with cooling fan
REDMAGIC 7S is a smartphone with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1.
Thanks to the built-in air-cooled fan, it can be cooled to some extent without a separate external cooler, making play stable for long periods of time.
The refresh rate is 165 Hz and the touch sampling rate is 720 Hz, creating a smooth and low touch delay play environment.
This review is based on the NX679S_CNCommon_V2.23, 12GB+256GB version.

Accessories include a protective case, 165W charger, USB Type-C cable, stickers, and instructions.
The REDMAGIC 7S itself supports up to 120W charging, but the charger supports USB PD / PPS up to 165W output in the 100V environment.
Flat display with no punch holes
The REDMAGIC 7S has an in-camera embedded in the bezel, resulting in a display with no punch holes.
The 6.8-inch AMOLED display supports a refresh rate of a whopping 165 Hz.
You can choose from 60, 90, 120, and 165 Hz.
Normally, the refresh rate is automatically adjusted to reduce battery consumption, but it can be fixed by turning on “Screen Lock Refresh Rate” in the developer options.
The touch latency measured by WALT Latency Timer was 15ms from touch to kernel, 3.3ms from kernel to Java, and 29ms for screen drawing, for a total of 47.3ms at 120Hz refresh rate + 720Hz touch sampling rate.
At 165Hz refresh rate, the total is 37.8ms, but most games use only 60-120FPS, so it is not much use.
Color gamut and color temperature can be adjusted from the settings.
Widevine L1 allows streaming in HD quality on Amazon Prime Video (beta) and others.
It has an in-screen fingerprint sensor, which is reasonably accurate.
Transparent back to tickle the geek’s fancy
In the transparent version, the back is skeletonized, allowing the cooling fan and other structures inside to show through.
The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 logo and other features are also depicted.
It weighs a hefty 228.3g.
Equipped with 64MP camera
The REDMAGIC 7S is a gaming smartphone and has a triple camera configuration with 64MP as the main camera.
Chicken dinners can also be photographed beautifully there.
USB Type-C port for video output
The USB Type-C port on the REDMAGIC 7S is USB 3.2 Gen 1 compatible and can also output video in DisplayPort Alt Mode.
It is also possible to use mmWave accessories to output video.
It is compatible with 120W fast charging, but 120W is only available under very limited conditions, and after being charged at around 90W, the power is immediately limited to the 50W range.
You can turn off battery optimization…but after a while it comes back on its own and it kills background apps, so you should expect no notifications to come in.
It’s nice to be able to use bypass charging (Charge separation) to feed power without charging the battery.
Supports VoLTE for global carriers

With 3.5mm earphone jack
There is a 3.5mm earphone jack on the top, as is typical for a gaming smartphone.
The WALT Latency Timer measured the audio output delay of the earphone jack to be 25.9 ms.
DTS: X Ultra is available.
There is a shoulder button on the side that, if set, allows actions to be taken during a game without touching the screen.
Slide the red switch to enter the game mode.
Heat dissipation fan eliminates the need for a cooler
REDMAGIC 7S has a built-in fan for cooling, so it dissipates some heat without the need for an external cooler.
Although still better than a full-fledged external cooler, it does make noise, so it is not suitable for use in quiet places.
The transparent version allows you to see the fan spinning.
The fan speed is automatically adjusted to the temperature in the intelligent setting.
The fan can be turned on by entering game mode or by pressing the fan tile in the quick settings.
High performance can be maintained for a long time
The REDMAGIC 7S is equipped with a cooling fan and has loose thermal throttling, which makes it easier to maintain high performance for long periods of time.
The cooling fan turns on by itself only when the benchmark app is launched, but this is a violation of UL policy, so I turned the fan off during measurement.
In Geekbench 5, the version disguised as Genshin on the left side is 1106 single-core and 3916 multi-core.
Unfortunately, the normal build has a benchmark boost that fixes the CPU clock to the maximum value, resulting in inaccurate benchmark results.
In PCMark Work 3.0, which measures performance in everyday use such as document operations, the score was 15721.
For some reason, REDMAGIC 7S does not fix the CPU clock to the maximum value in PCMark.
Is it because it is impossible to determine whether it is measuring performance or battery life?
In the 3DMark Wild Life Stress Test, the score was 10756, with a temperature increase from 27°C to 51°C (24°C increase) and 42 to 81 FPS.
With the cooling fan turned on, the score increased to 10837 and stability improved from 96.7% to 97.6%.
Storage is so-so speed.
I would have preferred it to be a bit faster for a gaming phone.
Playing Genshin at the highest quality and 60FPS setting and measuring with WeTest PerfDog, the average power consumption was 108.32mW per FPS at 58.9FPS.
This is the second lowest power consumption and highest performance after the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, and is as expected of a gaming smartphone.
Battery temperature was up to about 39°C, with the side frames getting a bit hot.
In World of Tanks Blitz, playing at 120FPS settings and all graphics settings at their highest values, the average was 119.3 FPS, with a power consumption of 43.05 mW per FPS.
It’s almost sticking to the 120 FPS and it’s awesome.

REDMAGIC 7S is easy to maintain high performance at low power consumption even without a cooler thanks to its built-in heat dissipation fan.
The 165Hz refresh rate and 720Hz touch sampling rate ensure smooth play with minimal touch delays.
The global version of the 7S Pro, which is the higher-end version with UDC, is available outside China.
